Akoya Pearl

The first cultured pearl was invented by Kokichi Mikimoto in Japan in 1893.  Before then, pearls used in jewellery were naturally produced by mollusks.  Therefore high quality pearls were extremely rare and very expensive.  Thanks to Mr Mikimoto, pearls are now cultured and can be produced in high quality and large quantities.

The Akoya pearls nowadays are mainly produced in the unpolluted water around Japan, and is commonly used in the jewellery industry.  Its exceptional lustre, color, beauty and versatility made it a must have for ladies around the world.
