Collection: Color Diamond

GIA defines white to light yellow diamond with the D to Z color scale.  Any diamond with color beyond scale Z is considered a color diamond or fancy color diamond.  The more important fancy color diamonds are yellow, pink, red, green, blue, and orange.  Only 1 in every 10,000 diamonds exhibit a fancy color.

In general, the deeper the color and clearer the diamond, the higher its value and rarity.  Among all colors: red, green, purple, and orange are the rarest, followed by pink and blue.  Yellow and brown are the more common fancy color diamonds.

The color in diamond is caused by different trace elements or physiological processes.  For example, yellow diamond is caused by the trace element nitrogen, blue by boron, pink by distortion in the crystal structure, and green by radiation.

Diamond is the birthstone of April.
